Sandy Steel is an Associate Professor of Law at the University of Oxford and a Fellow of Wadham College, Oxford. He has a B.A. and a Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge (Corpus Christi College). Before coming to Wadham, he was a Lecturer at King’s College London.
His research interests are primarily in the law of obligations, particularly tort law, and particularly from comparative law and philosophical perspectives. His book, Proof of Causation in Tort Law (CUP, 2015) explores the English, French and German tort law on when people may be held liable to pay compensation for losses which they have not been proven to have caused. Various courts, including the UK Supreme Court and the High Court of Australia, have cited his work. Sandy has also co-authored a critical guide to central questions in jurisprudence, Great Debates in Jurisprudence (Palgrave, 2014).
